The University of Madras has announced the online applications for admissions to various Ph.D. courses including PhD in Psychology program for January 2024 session. Further details related to the programs are as follows.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) is one of the highest and most common academic degrees. It typically takes about three to five years of full-time/part-time to complete. During the program, you go through many research works and attend seminars as a Ph.D. is focused on research, individuals seeking this degree have to conduct their special research to on a given or chosen topic. They usually write a substantial paper called a dissertation to showcase their discoveries. On completion of the course, the candidates are awarded the doctorate degree.
Eligibility Criteria
The candidate should have completed the PG degree program after completing UG degree in the format 10+2+UG Degree (3 or more years) or 11+1+ UG Degree (3 or more years). Applicants must have secured a minimum of 55% marks in their postgraduate degree or an equivalent grade of B on the UGC 7-point scale (or a corresponding grade on any other applicable grading system) in order to be eligible.
For SC/ST candidates and for candidates who have completed the PG degree before 1991, the minimum can be 50% for admission to the Ph.D. Program.
Duration of the Course
The duration of the program is 3 to 6 years.
Marking Scheme of Entrance Test
Parts of the Entrance Test: Written + Oral Examination
Written Test Marks: 35
Oral Test Marks: 15
The Entrance will test the candidate’s research aptitude and knowledge of the subject and research methodology. The Candidate is expected to score 25 out of 50 Marks on the Entrance test.

After filling out the application form, candidates are suggested to take the hard copy of the application and send the same to the concerned department /University. Applicants need to go to the SBI Collect online portal to make the payment for the application fee.
