Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a standardized test to take admission in various undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Ph.D. level courses in many foreign countries including the United States of America and Canada. Students often take the GRE Course to take admission to the Master’s course to pursue their studies in universities abroad.

GRE Test is regulated and conducted by the Educational Testing Services (ETS) and it is held multiple times a year. It is one of the most popular tests among graduate students looking to pursue their Master’s studies abroad.

GRE Entrance evaluates the candidate’s analytical writing, quantitative ability, and verbal reasoning skills through various assessments and sections of the test.

There are 2 Types of the GRE Entrance test, the GRE Subject Test and the GRE General Test.

GRE General Test:

The GRE General Test is made to evaluate your proficiency in the abilities required to succeed in graduate programs in business and law. Additionally, it enables you to try your best by utilizing more of your unique test-taking techniques. You have the option to skip and go back to any part, amend your answers, and more.

GRE Subject Test

As per the recent update, Chemistry is not included in the GRE Subject test now. Hence, there are now 3 Subject tests included in the GRE Examination. Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology.

The Psychology part of the Test has six Sections in total.

Measures of GRE General Examination

The Examination Measures the Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning skills of students on which the final Score of a student is based.

Analytical Writing: This contains 2 Sections for which the candidate is given 60 minutes (30 minutes each) to solve them.

Verbal Reasoning: This contains 2 Sections for which the candidate is given 60 minutes (30 minutes each) to solve them in the Computer Based test and 70 minutes (35 minutes each) for the paper-based test.

Quantitative Reasoning: This contains 2 Sections for which the candidate is given 70 minutes (35 minutes each) to solve them in the Computer Based test and 80 minutes (40 minutes each) for the paper Based test.

For GRE Psychology or GRE General paper, there are no specific eligibility or qualification criteria described by the ETS. However, the students should complete their under graduation with a good score as they will be applying for admission to the Masters’s program. ETS has also not mentioned any maximum age limit criteria for the candidates giving the GRE Examination.

Application Procedure:

Step 1: Register yourself on the GRE Application portal

The Candidate is required to sign in to the GRE Portal. If the candidate is there for the first time, click on New User Registration (Create New Account).

Step 2: Create a Test Taker Account

The Candidate is required to fill in his/her basic details (like Name, Address, contact details, etc.) to register on the GATE Admission Portal. Create a Username and Password for him/herself. Review the details and submit.

Step 3: Register for the GRE Examination

The Third step is to log in with the login credentials that you have generated while creating the Test taker account. After successfully login in, Click on Register/Find Test Centres, Dates to Register for the Test.

Step 4: Select the Test and Test Centre

Upload all the relevant documents including the academic degree/diploma or personal details verification documents like Aadhar card and Cast Certification (if applicable).

Step 5: Select the Examination Date and Centre

The Candidate should now Select the Examination Centre by the Date by the Distance. Select the examination centre and view dates, choose the suitable date for you and click on Register.

Step 6: Complete the Test Registration and Verify

Now verify your Personal Information and Complete the Test Registration procedure by filling up the required details like the background information, UG details, and more. Review your Test Registration and Proceed.

Step 7: Verify the Exam Course and Proceed to Checkout/Pay Now

After Successfully Completing the Test Registration, Verify the Examination that you are opting for and Proceed to Checkout for the Payment Procedures.

Step 8: Submit the Application fee

The Candidate should now pay the application fee for the Examination. After the successful payment of the Examination fee, the Application Procedure will be Complete.

Latest Changes in GRE Psychology (from September 2023)

The administrators have decided to conduct the Subject tests only in a Computer-delivered format.
They will also shorten the duration of Psychology Tests to 2 hours.
Scores on the test will continue to be reportable for 5 years after the test date.

GRE Exam Schedule

The administrators are going to shift the GRE Subject Tests, including Psychology, to the CBT-only mode. It means that the Paper-based test will not be available from September 2023. The GRE Subject Tests are currently conducting 3 times a year (September, October, and April). From September 2023, the test schedule may change.
