Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, on behalf of 7 other participating universities has announced the admission brochure for GATE 2023 to take admission in 8 total participating IITs in various Cities.
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an entrance test that assesses a candidate’s knowledge of various undergraduate engineering and science syllabi. Students give GATE Exam to take admission in various Master’s Programmes in the participating IITs. The number of participating universities has increased to 8, and the number of courses also increased to 29. Since 1983, India has had a GATE every year. There are now 29 separate Subjects in the exam, including psychology. The mode of entrance test for all will be CBT (Computer-based Test).
GATE 2023 will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and seven other Indian Institutes of Technology. These Institutions are IIT Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Chennai, Roorkee, Bengaluru, and Madras. The Examination is being conducted on behalf of the National Coordination Board—GATE, The Department of Higher Education, MoE (Ministry of Education), Govt. of India.

Among these eight institutions, there are only five institutes that provide Psychology in their master’s discipline. The name of which are: IIT Bangalore, Delhi, Guwahati, Mumbai, and Madras.

Eligibility criteria of the Exam:
- Candidates who possess a Graduation degree in the field of Engineering, science, arts, Commerce, technology, etc.
- Candidates who are currently in the third year of graduation or 4th year of graduation.
- Master’s degree in Psychology Currently in the 1st /2nd/3rd/4thyear or already completed.
GATE Psychology 2023 Examination pattern:
General Aptitude (GA): The general aptitude portion includes 10 questions with 15 marks. Question distribution is as follows.
- 05 Questions with 1 mark each
- 05 Questions with 2 marks each
Section B1(Reasoning and Comprehension): The Reasoning and Comprehension part includes 15 questions with 25 marks. Question distribution is as follows.
- 05 Questions with 1 mark each
- 10 Questions with 2 marks each
Psychology Paper(C5): The Psychology Paper includes 40 questions with 60 marks. Question distribution
Total number of Questions: 40
- 20 Questions with 1 mark each
- 20 Questions with 2 marks each
Total: 100 Marks (General Aptitude + Reasoning and Comprehension + Psychology Paper)
Types of Questions
MCQ – Multiple Choice Question, there would be a question will four alternates, candidates have to choose one correct option.
MSQ- Carrying 1 to 2 marks in the paper, there would be no negative marking.
NAT- Candidates have to type the answer in an integer type, there would be no negative marking.
Negative Marking: Yes, there would be a penalty of 1/3 marks for every wrong answer for 1 mark question and a penalty of 2/3 marks for every incorrect question of 2 marks.
Applications Procedure:
As soon as the applications are open, the candidate is required to click on the APPLY NOW link mentioned in the Important link section and follow the steps mentioned below.
Step 1: Register yourself on the GATE 2023 Portal
The Candidate is required to fill in his/her basic details (like Name, contact number, and email id) to register on the GATE Admission Portal.
Step 2: Fill up the Complete Application form
The second step of the application is to fill up the application form with the complete details, personal details, and academic details of the candidates. This section will also include the course and institution that the candidate is applying for.
Step 3: Upload all the Necessary Documents
Upload all the relevant documents including the academic degree/diploma or personal details verification documents like Aadhar card and Cast Certification (if applicable).
Step 4: Application Verification
The candidate is now required to verify all the details and documents that he/she has filled in the application form and completely verify the application.
Step 5: Pay the Application fee
The application procedure will now be completed after the payment of the application fee through any net baking mode.
