The Maharashtra Institute of Mental Health (MIMH) is a state-level government institute that was established in 1991 by the Government of Maharashtra. It is a leading institute in the field of mental health and is recognized as a “Centre of Excellence” by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. MIMH works under the administrative control of the Medical Education and Drugs Department of the state government.
Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must fulfill certain criteria for admission to M.Phil Clinical Psychology course at MIMH:
- He must be a citizen of India
- He must be a domicile of Maharashtra State
- The candidate must have completed a Master’s in Psychology with a minimum of 55% (50% for SC/ST/OBC) marks or Grade ‘B’ in UGC 7-point scale in aggregate.
The institute has an intake of 4 seats in total (Open – 2, SC – 1, NT-B – 1).

Department of Clinical Psychology at MIMH
Since the academic year 1993-94, the Department of Clinical Psychology has been offering a Certificate Course in Counseling. This course is unique in the state of Maharashtra as it is the only postgraduate program approved by the government. Upon completing this one-year course, students have the chance to apply their practical skills and knowledge during a three-month internship under faculty supervision.
There is an intake of 12 seats per academic year in the Certificate Course in Counseling and Psychotherapy at this institute. The duration of this certificate course is 1 year (full time) + internship of 3 months. The candidates must have completed M.A. in Clinical Psychology/ Counselling Psychology to be eligible for this certificate course.
