MPhil Clinical Psychology, IHBAS

The Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS), set up by the Government of India in 1993, is a mental health and neurological care centre. Located in Shahdara, New Delhi, IHBAS was originally known as the Hospital for Mental Diseases. 

IHBAS provides high-quality patient care, conducts important research, and offers training for future mental health professionals. The institute has MD, DM, M.Phil., and PhD programs, preparing students to lead in fields like psychiatry and behavioural sciences.

We only offer information related to psychology. Therefore, this article will briefly discuss the MPhil in Clinical Psychology. 

MPhil in Clinical Psychology

The M.Phil in Clinical Psychology is a two-year postgraduate program designed to train students to become licensed clinical psychologists. Recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), this program provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively treat mental health conditions.

Eligibility : 

M.A./M.Sc. in Psychology/Applied Psychology/ Cognitive Psychology/ Clinical Psychology/ Counseling Psychology/Health Psychology from UGC recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks (50% marks for candidates under reserved categories SC; ST; OBC; EWSs and PH). Candidates appearing in M.A/M.Sc. final exams can also apply, however, at the time of the Entrance Test they need to necessarily bring an M.A./M.Sc. Final Passing Certificate/Mark sheet.

Duration and Seats :

It is a 2-year course.

The total number of seats is “11” and the seat distribution is as follows : 

1. General – 5
2. OBC – 2
3. SC – 2
4. ST – 1
5. EWS – 1

Note that the number of seats can vary for each year.

Fees Structure : 

• University Fee – As per the DU norms
• Caution Money for Library Membership Charge – 2000/-
• Caution money for clinical psychology Lab – 4000/- 
• Hostel Charges (inclusive of Water and Electricity) – 470/- per month
• M. Phil training development fee – 1000/- per month
• Ex-Student fee – 500/-
• Ex-Student Fee is for former Students of the Institute in the MPhil Course.

Application Fee: 

Rs.3000/- for General candidates. For reserved category candidates application fee will be Rs.1500/-. The application fee is to be deposited to the IHBAS Bank Account. The Complete form will be submitted along with the application fee through Net Banking/Online Banking. The application fee is non-refundable/non-adjustable.

Application Process

1. Download the Application Form: 

• Visit the Official IHBAS Website: Go to the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences’ official website.   
• Locate the M.Phil Program Section: Find the link specific to the M.Phil Clinical Psychology program, where you should see application materials and guidelines.
• Download the Form: Click the application form link to download it in PDF format.

2. Fill Out Personal Details: Enter your personal information, including name, contact, and academic details.

3. Attach Required Documents: Documents like required academic certificates and marksheets, experience certificates, and identity proof.

4. Pay the Application Fee: Make the payment as instructed. The form will require you to pay either via bank transfer or demand draft.

5. Submit: Send the completed form and documents to the address provided.

Stipend : 

IHBAS will pay a stipend to the selected candidates @ Rs.25000/- per month for M.Phil. Clinical Psychology.

Method of Selection: 

The selection will be based on marks obtained in the entrance test conducted by the Examination Department, University of Delhi. The entrance test will be of an MCQ type consisting of 100 questions to be answered in 1.5 hours (90 minutes). There will be no interview. (The syllabus of the entrance test will be that of a P.G. level psychology course). 

Entrance Test : 

There will be 100 multiple-choice questions in the paper. The number of questions will be distributed across the papers of the P.G. level Psychology Course as follows:

1. 10 questions each of General Psychology, Social Psychology, Physiological Psychology, Statistics and Research Methodology, Personality, Developmental Psychology.
2. 25 questions of Clinical Psychology. 
3. 15 questions of Abnormal Psychology.
4. Each question is followed by 4 alternative options.
5. There is no negative marking.
6. The total time allotted is 1:30 hours. 
7. The result of the written test is declared on the same day by evening and selected candidates are called for counseling and document verification on a suggested date.

Note: The syllabus for entrance tests and distribution of marks keep changing. Also, the syllabus is not strictly followed in all exams. Follow UPS Education’s recommended syllabus to prepare.

Two to three days after the publication of the result, the Document Verification and Counseling will start.
