NCERT is introducing a one-year Diploma Course for training professionals in Guidance and Counseling, combining distance and face-to-face modes. This course aims to enhance the skills of teachers, teacher trainers, school leaders, and guidance personnel in India. Its main aim is to support students in growing better and to teach these professionals how to help students with their studies, emotions, and values.
About NCERT
Govt. of India created NCERT in the year 1961. It operates autonomously, with the responsibility of offering guidance and support to both Central and State Governments to enhance the quality of school education through policy recommendations and program implementation.
The major objectives of NCERT and its constituent units are as follows:
- To engage in, support, and coordinate research in fields connected to school education.
- Create and release model textbooks, additional resources, newsletters, journals, educational kits, multimedia digital materials, and more.
- Arrange training programs for teachers before and during their service.
- Create and share new and effective educational methods and approaches.
- Work together and establish connections with state educational departments, universities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other educational institutions.
- Serve as a central place where people can exchange and share ideas and information about school education.
- Serve as a key organization for reaching the goals of making sure every child gets an elementary education.
Apart from its work in research, development, training, spreading knowledge, and publishing, NCERT also carries out projects in cooperation with other countries to exchange ideas and culture in school education.
Further details related to admissions are as follows:
Duration of course: 1 Year, which is having three phases as given below:

Admission to qualified applicants will be offered at DEPFE, NIE, New Delhi and Regional Institutes of Education at Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Mysuru and Shillong. The maximum no. of seats at each center will be 50. Government-deputed candidates will be preferred.
Department will only accept applications in online mode. The department will not receive applications in person or via email. Department will organize and dispatch the applications to regional study centers in accordance with the regulations of the Diploma.
Eligibility Criteria for Diploma Course in Guidance and Counselling
- In-service teacher-graduate with a teaching degree.
- Candidates ‘personally not working’ – graduation with a teaching degree and at least two years of teaching or related experience.
- Postgraduates in psychology /education /social work /child development /special education. Preference will be given to those with at least one year of teaching or related experience.
The minimum percentage of marks for all target groups is 50% (5% relaxation for SC and ST candidates).
Minimum Number of Seats: 50 (Per study center). Reservations apply as per the Govt. Policies.

Candidates will need to pay for their own food and accommodation during the contact program. However, non-local candidates will have access to these facilities.
