The University of Allahabad is a central University based in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. Initially, it functioned under the University of Calcutta. The University of Allahabad was established on 23 September 1887 and the Central University status was re-established through the Act 2005 by the Parliament of India. It is also considered the University of National Importance. It is one of the oldest universities in India and it was known as the Oxford of the East.
